Web science: how the web is changing the world

We are looking forward to welcoming you onto Web Science: How the Web is Changing the World which starts on 6 October.

The course is based on our experience of trying to understand how the Web has grown and changed through technical innovation, economics, politics and everyday use.

The course is called ‘Web Science’ because it will provide you with an understanding of the way that the technology of the Web interacts with our economy, society and culture rather than just explaining ‘how the Internet works’ or ‘how to build websites in HTML’.

The course provides a taster of the subject and we hope the topics we have chosen give you an insightful overview of this fascinating emerging area. We look forward to discussing the issues during the course.

There is still time to invite friends and colleagues to enrol on the course and take part alongside you. Having the support of learning with people you know can really enrich the experience of studying online. As a reminder, the course page where they can enrol can be found at:

There will be plenty of opportunity to interact with other learners once the course begins. In the meantime, feel free to use the hashtag #FLwebsci for any discussions in social networks.
